2003/04 London Secondary Schools
"Pathways to Discovery" Contest
Partners in Research (in conjunction with our
co-sponsors – see below) is
pleased to announce the 2003-04 Essay Contest for the
Secondary Students* category, in the Thames Valley District
School Board and/or the Greater London Area. The theme of
the contest is “The Scientific Journey: Pathways to
Discovery” with an emphasis on the role of health research
in Canadian society.
We will be offering cash awards to students,
consisting of (1) Gold ($150), (1) Silver ($100) and (1)
Bronze ($50) to each grade level ranging from grades 9
through 12. A certificate of merit will be awarded for
the top essays from each grade level, as well as the
opportunity for a grand prize winner to be a “Scientist
for a Day.” This student will spend the day visiting
research laboratories, and having lunch with a Canadian
scientist. The winner may also be eligible to appear on
the annual Children’s Miracle Network Telethon, which
airs on television on The New PL television network
serving Southwestern Ontario.

The Child Health Research
Institute is a collaborative venture by the Children’s Health
Foundation, The University of Western Ontario’s Department of Paediatrics,
and the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario. The primary goal of the CHRI
is to create an academic research centre that will improve children’s health
care by addressing relevant questions about the causes, cures and long term
effects of children’s diseases and disabilities, and by evaluating new
therapies for infants and children. The Children’s Health Foundation is
proud to fund the CHRI and to share in its mission.
