"Pathways to Discovery" Contest
The Children's
Health Research Institute and Partners in
Research (in conjunction with our
co-sponsors) is pleased to
announce the 2007-08 Essay Contest for Elementary Schools in the Greater London Area. The
theme of the contest is “The Scientific Journey: Pathways to
Discovery” with an emphasis on the role of health research in
Canadian society.

Essays, typewritten or clearly hand written and limited to 1000 words in
length, will be accepted on any topic related to “How Health Research
Helps Kids” (topics, rules and other information available in the
download package - see below). All entries must be postmarked no later
than March 7, 2008.
Papers will be judged by (1) content, (2) originality, (3) organization and
(4) grammar.
PRIZES:
For students in the region we will be awarding a series of cash prizes at
each grade level (grades 5-8). These prizes will consist of Gold
($150.00), Silver ($100.00), and Bronze ($50.00). The
grand prize winner will also be given the opportunity to be a “Scientist for
a Day.” In addition to the prize cash award, the grand prize winner will
spend a day visiting research laboratories, and will include lunch with a
research scientist.
Eligibility:
London and area students who are currently
enrolled in public, separate or private elementary schools may submit
entries.
