Cartoon Lab Tour for Kids

"Let's Visit a Research Laboratory"

Animals probably mean a lot of things to you. Maybe, when you think of animals, you think of a special pet. Maybe you think of the different types of animals you might find on a farm. Or maybe you think about an animal in the wild that you have learned about. But have you ever thought about how animals HELP you?

Question Bug

You might be surprised to know that animals play a very special role in helping us learn more about diseases (and how to prevent them). They also help us discover ways to make our everyday life more healthful, comfortable and safe.

When you get sick and go to the doctor, for example, she (or he) is usually able to help you get better because of something called biomedical research - which teaches scientists about how our bodies work, how we get sick, and some ways to help us get better.

Picaso's Scientist

Without research, your doctor would not know very much about what is wrong with you or how to help you feel better. And he (or she) would not be able to write you a prescription for the right kind of medicine... because that kind of medicine probably would not exist withoutbiomedical research. So the next time you need to see the doctor, remember how important this research is in YOUR life!

Cool Hat

Maybe you're wondering... "HOW does this work?" Have you ever wondered what happens in a research laboratory? Maybe you have heard that animals are sometimes used in these laboratories, but you're not sure how, or why.
